Brand Evaluation

After doing this project on my Brand Bobbi Brown, i found researching into the history and the making of the brand the best place to start. Once i found out where and why she started it made it easier to know what the brand was about as whole. Bobbi Brown isn't just a make up brand, she promotes a healthy lifestyle and encourages real women to just enhance themselves with her products. She wants people to feel prettier and more confident, with her products giving them a natural finish and healthier glow. She encourages women to be there own make up artist and celebrates peoples individual style. With this natural take on make up this is why she stood out in that era and became the make up brand for natural minimalist make up.
Looking at different aspects of research, from advertising, to marketing and social media help put together what the brand was trying to do and how they were trying to package themselves as the brand Bobbi Brown. Looking at different social media sites help me realise that she doesn't just promote her products and want more sales, (although this is a huge part of the social media) she post healthy food options and lifestyle things.
Along with the brand Bobbi also maintains a blog and has written several best selling books. within my research i found she has many causes she supports. She started a campaign called Pretty Powerful where the add is real women before and afters. This moreover goes along with the brands mission statement and what they are all about. It supports women through empowerment though education.
Looking at Bobbi browns store development helped me see how she wanted to present her products to the public. It was all very clean and sleek. They looked modern and appealed to all ages. She uses different ranges of technology through these stores to do this aswell.
After researching into the celebrities that have worked with Bobbi and who are currently working with her, you can see why Kate Upton was chosen. Not only for being beautiful but Bobbi stated she represents everything that she stands for too.
Having some of her products myself i know her packaging is very smart and professional looking, something pro make up artist look for to have in their kits. It all black with the white logo usually.
However doing this project on this brand i sometimes didn't feel like i could go very far with some of the looks, which i think i would have been able to do with a different brand. Everything always had to be clean, natural, minimills and usually in nude tones. I did try and push the boundaries of this brand with a couple or my looks using different eye shadows and lip colours. I still feel this portrayed my the brand though, as i kept in mind, skin and those other aspects. I like that Bobbi has used 'real' women as model in her campaigns before as this gave me a chance to use model i wouldn't usualy think of for those kinds of looks. I also struggled to find information on sales and prices.
After finishing i do believe this brand is trying to portray more than just make up and i have enjoyed creating looks based on it.I love everything that they stand for but however although I've liked the beauty looks I've created during this project, if i had the chance again i may chose a brand that i could push the boundaries slightly more with. I believe i have followed the brief well though, and my looks represent Bobbi Brown well.

Project Evaluation

Overall i have really enjoyed this project. I feel my practical and theoretical skills have grown and developed throughout the duration of this semester.
I feel i have used different research sources and drew inspiration from different things to help coming up with a design idea. Although next time i need to concentrate more on looking at different forms of research rather than just the internet and drawing inspiration for my looks from everyday life too. Which is something i have done before but have struggled to fit into this project. Although unlike other projects which has had more historical research, i have really enjoyed the research side of this term as i feel its more me and what I'm interested in than other projects we have had.
I have definitely found aspects of it challenging this term, in regards to it being quite quick paced to  have our designs ready and research and background work done. And also the amount of designs we have had to do in the time limit too. However saying this i feel i have worked well under this pressure and created 5 good designs. There are aspects to all of my looks that i was pleased with.
I was really pleased with my product and spring images, but i think this is more down to being able to shoot in the studio and my model choice, as these images look the most professional and are the strongest out of the 5. This would be an area i would make sure i deal with in the future, as a photographer and studio can make all the difference.
I was least pleased with my day look, which i thought would be the simplest. I couldn't find the right hairstyle which i felt connected best with the look. If i was to reshoot this look i would add accessories into the hair, and maybe change the placement of the plait itself. I was however please with all 5 make up looks, which is the area i feel strongest and most confident in.
Overall i feel like all 6 of my designs have turned out well and reflect my research. Even though if i could develop my looks again there would be things i would change i still think i have followed the brief well and they in keep and portray my brand. I have learnt new skills in a our practical classes such as braiding and plaiting, which will help in the further with other designs and projects. I am more confident in my practical and theoretical skills and feel my final outcomes demonstrate this.

Night Look

As all my other looks so far have been very natural, although i used a black eye, they haven't been very full on. Which is greta because thats what my brand represents. For this look though, i want to show that thats not what they are all about. I want to add colour because bobbi have a really great range of colour, and although for a lot of people it would be the place they would go to buy such products as they are so well known for there nudes, bronzes and shimmer bricks, i feel Bobbi would advertise a night look this way to try and promote her other great products.

One of the trends in 2014 was a bright bold eye, Georgio armani and marc jacobs used this in their shows.
I think i want to use more of a colour for this look, rather than a black or brown to make a statement. Also i want a bold lip and eye, to really dramatise the look.
i found these images on Bobbis instagram and i feel it fits in perfectly with what i want here.

It shows one women with a blue eye and the other with a red lip. I want to combine the too. Although I'm going to use green for the eye not blue as i feel it will go better together.

Model- For these images I'm going to be using a model, that Bobbi wouldn't normally use, but like my day look, I'm using a real women. I have chosen to use it for this look to as i believe day and night are the things women would look for inspiration for the most. So to look and see a women that doesn't look your typical model and looks real and genuine would inspire and encourage the everyday women a lot more. She also had a septum piercing which i have chosen to keep in for the look as i don't want to change her personal appearance i want to use it and work with it.

Face chart:

For the hair in this look, i have had to base around my model as her hair is very unusual and particular. Im having the hair down, but with a wave in the bottom so you can see all the colour. She also has a fringe which I'm leaving down.

Final Images:

After completing this look, i was pleased with how they images turned out. Im glad i stuck with Sammi as my model because i think the make up design and hair look really worked for her. Im glad i didn't go to dark for the eye as i think that would have changed the look. Even though its not one of Bobbis traditional looks i think it still in keeps with the brand because the base is still natural and its advertising her other products.

Timed Assesment

For my timed assessment images, i want to keep it very simple and very Bobbi. I want to take everything she's known for and put it into this look. Ive seen images of Kate Upton the face of Bobbi and she has her hair very curled and wavy and thats where I've drew inspiration from for this look.

Kat Colour Theory

Colour Theory Face Charts:
For this analougus face chart i choose to use shades of pinks into purple slightly, instead of using three colours that are next to each other i chose to use just different shades.
In this face chart i chose to use blue and orange as they are complimentary colours. A subtle blue eye with a  bold orange lip.
Here are some other face charts of colour theory work.

Today we were asked to copy a black and white image that Kat presented us. We had to pick what complementary colours we wanted to use and copy the black and white image.

A complimentary colour design i did previously.

High Summer Look

For this look i want to achieve a bronzed natural look, as my brand Bobbi brown is all ab out that. I want to develop my timed assessment images and give them a little bit more rather than being so natural. This image is from 2014, dolce and gabana and micheal kors.
I really like the way the skin glows and looks so bronzed in these images. I like the left image because of the more browner eye, and the right because of the pinker lip. I think i want a combination of the two for my look. This look i feel in keeps with my brand because bobbi brown is about the nudes and the natural blowy bronzed skin which is exactly what this will be.

A brown smokey eye practice. I do like the idea of brown, because it gives something but without being to powerful and over running the look. I want to add more golds and blend more though to give a stinger sense of a summer look.

I prefer the eye in the practice more as its not so brown, though i want more colour to the lip, i don't want it so nude.

Face chart:

For the hair i want it to be look very natural, but also very done at the same time. I want it down with a middle parting and it waved. Very loose, but not fly away so it looks scruffy.
I bought some hair wavers which I'm going to use- i trailed them on myself to see if they gave the effect i wanted. This is exactly how i want it to look. All of bobbi browns images always look effortless. They never look like someone has been there for hours doing the person up so i wanted this to mirror that.

Styling- I want the styling for this image to be very casual. I don't want it to be very done, just a loose top. My ideal background for this would a white, but I'm having to shoot this image at home not the studio.

Final Images:

I was pleased with the way this look came out. I liked all factors towards it and feel it achieved what i wanted my brand to say. I was disappointed with the lighting and the background, which took an impact on the overall images themselves. If i had shoot this look in the studio it would have come out a lot better, but due to my circumstances i wasn't able too. I would maybe change the parting of the hair if i was to do this look again, as its slightly to harsh for what i wanted, i think a side parting would have made it a lot softer.
